The Need to Unite

Across the nation, the Asian Pacific American community in the Pacific Northwest is often cited as a model of political unity and effectiveness as evidenced by successful voter mobilization and legislative advocacy efforts implemented in the region over the years. Additionally, the importance of tapping into the fiscal resources of the Asian Pacific community is generally understood and well reported in the media.

This is also reflected in the fact that there continues to exist significant racial glass ceilings for Asian Pacific Americans to break through, especially in the federal judiciary. Nationally, out of 875 authorized appointments, only six active federal judges are Asian Pacific Americans. No APA has ever been appointed in the State of Washington where APAs now account for about 17% of the population in the greater Puget Sound area.

NWCAPA will focus its efforts at the national and regional level and when appropriate will become active with issues of greatest impact on the Asian Pacific American community. NWCAPA will continually develop resources to grow and maintain a presence on the national political scene.
